How to enroll in the Apple Small Business Program

Even if this article is not directly related to Xamarin, we developers know how frustrating it is to give away a 30% share to Apple and Google. Fortunately From January 2021, Apple will introduce the Small business program. This is a screenshot of the e-mail I got from them:

The big Advantage

The advantage is very clear, instead of asking 30% from our sales in the App Store, Apple will only get 15%. Not bad as it means that Apple will ask for exactly half of what they were asking before.

Let’s see the main points of this new program:

  • Existing developers who made up to 1 million USD in proceeds in 2020 for all their apps, as well as developers new to the App Store, can qualify for the program and the reduced commission.
  • If a participating developer surpasses the 1 million USD threshold, the standard commission rate will apply for the remainder of the year.
  • If a developer’s proceeds fall below the 1 million USD threshold in a future calendar year, they can re-qualify for the 15% commission the year after.
  • Developers must identify any Associated Developer Accounts to determine proceeds eligibility.

How to enroll

  • Be an Account Holder in the Apple Developer Program,
  • Review and accept the latest Paid Apps agreement (Schedule 2 to the Apple Developer Program License Agreement) posted December 2020 in App Store Connect, and
  • If applicable, list all of your Associated Developer Accounts.

Conclusion

If you want to know more information you can visit the Apple Small Business Program.

If you want to enroll right now, you can do it from Apple Small Business Enrollment

According to Apple e-mail, you have to enroll by December 18, 2020, at 10 a.m. PST to receive program benefits by January 1, 2021. I have already done it!

I really hope that Google will follow soon Apple, reducing their commission from 30% to 15%. It would be the right thing to do! Don’t you agree?
